The Winery
History
Finca Flichman is one of the well established and leading companies in
Argentina.
Our story started in 1873, in the area of Barrancas, Maipú, Province of Mendoza,
where our first vineyards were planted. Towards the start of 1910, the Flichman
family re-inaugurated the property with the name of Finca Flichman. It was Sami
Flichman, a visionary pioneer, who developed the first vineyards in a depression
formed by the Mendoza River in ancient times.
In 1998, Finca Flichman was acquired by Sogrape, a Portuguese viticultural group
renowned as a leader in Portugal and a strong player in the international
market. The original winery, surrounded by its vineyards, was preserved,
restored and enlarged by their proprietors, and it was endowed with the finest
and most advanced winemaking technology.
Flichman’s grapes are harvested from its 310 hectares of vineyards (out of its
total 950 hectares) with noble varietals, of which Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz,
Malbec, Merlot and Chardonnay are examples. The vineyards extend over two
Mendoza regions: Barrancas, situated at 700 meters a.s.l., and the privileged
Tupungato which is situated at 1,100 meters a.s.l.
The expansion of its vineyards, the incorporation of latest-generation equipment
and technology and constant personnel training have enabled Finca Flichman to
make wines of high quality and personality, which are quite differentiated and
which clearly mark a step in the evolution of fine wines from the New World.
Oenological Style
Everything starts at the vineyard. We work with nature, respecting all its
aspects. Our aim is to improve at the winery what is given to us by soil,
altitude, climate and vineyard.
From Barrancas, 700 meters a.s.l., we can expect wines with ripe fruit, colour,
body and volume. From Tupungato, 1,100 meters a.s.l., we can expect fresh fruit,
structure and complexity.

Finca Flichman
In 1873, in the area of Barrancas, Maipú, province of Mendoza, our first
vineyards were planted. Towards the start of 1910, the Flichman family
re-inaugurated the property with the name of Finca Flichman. It was Sami
Flichman, a visionary pioneer, who developed the first vineyards in a depression
formed by the Mendoza River in ancient times.
Sami was succeeded by his son who had studied oenology in France and put his
learning into practice creating fine wines. The top exponent was Caballero de la
Cepa, one of the most famous and respected of Argentina's wines. The family
continued working the winery until 1983 when it was bought by a business
conglomerate of Argentine extraction.
This was but the start. The big change took place in 1998 when the winery was
acquired by Sogrape, the Portuguese vitivinicultural group, renowned as the
leader in Portugal and a strong player in the international market. A new
strategy was immediately implemented, with the objective of strengthening
Flichman's leadership in the production of top quality wines possessing a
definite Argentine character, destined for global consumption. To obtain this
goal, new vines were planted, the winery was expanded, endowing it with the very
latest technology. Thus, 100 years of Flichman history faces a new future of
perfecting its wines of already top quality.

Finca Flichman is one of the oldest and most respectable wineries in Argentina. Started in 1873 by the Flichman family it is now a subsiduary of Sogrape, Portugal`s largest wine maker. The bodega is located in Maipu, south of the river Mendoza in an area called Barrancas. Flichman`s wines are very popular in Argentina and demand to be drank whilst young, especially the Finca Flichman and Caballero de la Cepa range (it means "knight of the vine"). Flichan produce a large range of varietals but their Malbec and Chardonnay are best. All are grown in the vineyards that surround the bodega.
