TORRONTES
Torrontés is the
characteristic white wine grape of Argentina, producing fresh, aromatic white
wines.[1] Three criolla varieties exist in Argentina: Torrontés Riojano, the
most common; Torrontés Sanjuanino; and Torrontés Mendocino.
A grape called Torrontés is found in Galicia in Spain. Its relationship to the
Argentine varieties is uncertain.

Torrontés undoubtedly Argentina's white wine with the most potential to build a
loyal following around the world. It is widely planted, and the three varieties
of Torrontés found in Argentina (Torrontés Riojano, Torrontés Sanjuanino and
Torrontés Mendocino) take their names from the provinces they are most
associated with.
Torrontés Riojano is the most common and highest quality and is especially well
adapted to the high, sandy slopes of the Cafayate in the northerly Salta
province, thriving at altitudes well over 1,600m above sea level. This is also
true in another cool climate region, the Uco Valley, Mendoza, particuarly in
upcoming Tupungato.
